The Dog belongs to the Earthly Branch xū and it is connected to the evening hours of seven to nine. It arrived at the party with the Rooster and Monkey, but because it was the third of them to meet with the god to help fight off evil spirits before they arrived at the party, the Emperor placed the Dog behind them. A name you will often see for dogs in China is Wàng Cái, which translates to “prosperous wealth,” and it sounds similar to wàng wàng, which are words used for the sound of a dog’s bark. The most recent years of the Dog were 2018 and 2006, and the next is 2030.
Personality and characteristics
As with their animal counterparts, Dogs are known for their excellent companionship and for being loyal. They are devoted to the people who are close to them, and they will not turn on or betray them. This makes them many friends, as their genuine nature does not go unnoticed, and they are always looking for ways to assist others. However, their focus on other people can lead them to neglect themselves, and they have internal concerns that always seem to plague them. This does not debilitate them, though. Rather, they are motivated to deal with their problems and come out ahead.
compatibility
Dogs and Rabbits make for great companions, with each being caring and helpful to each other. Dogs also get along well with Tigers, whose optimism rubs off on them, while the Tigers get a secure friendship from the Dogs. Horses and Dogs are strong matches, as they see each other clearly and value what the other has to say. Dogs match poorly with Dragons, as they bicker and are suspicious of each other. Oxen and Dogs are not suited for each other either, with little in common to connect them. Sheep also are not a good fit for Dogs, and the two will just barely put up with each other.
health
Dogs tend to be hardy, but this leads them to ignore health problems that come up. They should make a greater effort to rest when they get a cold, as it can be more serious than they think. They are at risk of seasonal illnesses, and they also do not eat properly throughout their lives, with bad diets from their childhood coming back to give them problems as they age. Because they work so hard, they have both physical and mental stress, so they should schedule in time for relaxation and physical activity to keep health problems away. Yoga will help them to relax and also help them with ailments such as headaches and anxiety.
career
Because Dogs are good at following instructions and possess an intense loyalty, they do well in jobs where they are given tasks to follow, which they will do dutifully. They prefer to not be in the spotlight, and they would rather help people accomplish their goals rather than lead themselves. They also have a competitive nature, which will help them get ahead in their work. Jobs that work well for them are attorneys and journalists, as they are guided by a powerful moral compass and are good at making value judgments about other people.
